Maine Trucking for Kids Convoy Raises Over $12,000 for the Kids!
The Maine Professional Drivers Association raised over $12,000 to Camp Sunshine, of Casco, and Camp POSTCARD, of Winthrop. The funds were raised during the annual Maine Trucking for Kids Convoy, held at the Maine Department of Transportation (MeDOT) facility on Pleasant Hill Road in Scarborough on Sunday, September 21, 2025. Camp Sunshine caters to critically ill kids and their families. The event will divide the funds with Camp POSTCARD, which caters to disadvantaged Maine kids.
The event’s top fundraiser was Rowland Turgeon, who raised $2,090 of the funds to register to participate. Many local companies and drivers participated in the event which included a 50-truck convoy through Scarborough and South Portland around the Maine Mall, Payne Road, and Route 1 areas.
During the event, a touch-a-truck activity took place along with a truck show and a driving competition for the big rigs. A lot of the funds were also raised from the prize raffle and the huge barbeque. Special thanks go out to MeDOT for the use of the facility and the parking area for staging the convoy and other activities.
The event was hosted by the Maine Professional Drivers Association with assistance from local sheriff and police departments. A special thank you to the Scarborough Police Department and Officer Eric Greenleaf for taking care of all the leg work for law enforcement. More details will soon be posted on the Maine Professional Drivers Association website at www.mpda.org
Awards were presented to the top fundraisers. These were sponsored by the Maine Motor Transport Association. The top company fundraiser was Ray’s Truck Service of Biddeford while the top individual fundraisers were Rowland Turgeon, James Turgeon and Larry Emery, bringing in nearly $3,000.
Thank you to everyone who had a hand in this great day! Thanks to all who work behind the scenes, organizing meetings, preparing truck show ballots, printing and distributing flyers and generating publicity, getting food and cooks lined up, preparing and cooking the food, getting traffic control, preparing a parking plan, bringing equipment and trucks, providing DJ service, cleaning trucks, working in the hot sun all day, setting up the day before, soliciting prizes and pledges, getting sponsors for porta-potties, advertising, food, equipment, trophies, cleaning up at the end of the event, and all the other things necessary as we end up with a feeling of satisfaction that we accomplished something special!
Every year the Committee presents plaques of appreciation to two people and two companies to recognize their outstanding service to the event. This year plaques were presented to KCV Trailers, LP Murray Excavating, Nikki Fernald and Bill McIntyre.
Awards were also presented to the drivers who had the best-looking trucks, as determined by the drivers voting.
