To all involved in the Maine Trucking for Kids Convoy:

Thanks to all who participated and to all the volunteers and supporters at the Maine Trucking for Kids Convoy yesterday at Scarborough Downs! The event raised over $15,000!! The bulk of the funds will go to Camp Sunshine with a donation also being made to Camp Postcard. And about the fundraising.... PAF driver Jack Roussel again brought in the most funds, raising over $4,000!

Over 50 trucks showed up and convoyed through Scarborough and South Portland, getting plenty of attention from the kids (and older folks) along the route. Trophies were handed out for the best looking trucks and many drivers and companies were recognized for their support of the event. Drivers also got to show their trucks to the public during the day and for a small donation got to display their driving skills in the fun driving competition.

Thanks especially to the set-up and clean-up crews. And a special thanks to Scarborough Downs for their exceptional hospitality! The coverage from the Scarborough and South Portland Police Departments was outstanding and everyone involved in the barbeque put together a great feed for everyone. And a big thanks to those who registered drivers, handled the judging, parking, raffle, publicity, soliciting, and all the little things that need to be done to have a successful event.

A side bonus to the event was that all the leftover food and water was delivered to Hope Haven Gospel Mission in Lewiston, an organization that provides food, shelter, clothing and hope to the lost, lonely and forgotten in our communities. Thanks to Rob Fernald for working out the delivery of that donation and thanks to those who donated all the food that made it possible to have leftovers, like Poland Spring, Hannaford, Walmart, Frito Lay, McDonald's, Sysco, and others.

And a big thank you to the sponsors of various parts of the event so that all the driver pledges would go directly to the kids. They included Northeast Technical Institute, One Stop Event Rentals, Maine Motor Transport Association, Irving Oil, Clifford W. Perham, Inc. /Shaw's, HomeTown Buffet Restaurant, PAF and many others.

And how can you thank the drivers and companies who brought all the equipment that it made it possible to have a convoy! Thanks to all who made that possible!

Special Awards - 2017

Randy DeVault
Randy has been involved with the convoy for so many years that we can’t remember how far back he goes, and he probably can’t remember. But we know we can always count on him to provide the sound system for the announcements and for many years his rolling classroom served as the registration office for the event. He always represents the Maine Motor Transport Association in the best possible light as represents the industry well.

Kayley Walker
Kayley only came on with Camp Sunshine a few years ago but she has been one of our best supporters as we organize this event throughout the year. She attends all the meetings, acts as a liaison with many of the supporters and is always there when we need an extra set of hands.

Kelly Myers
Since Kelly arrived on board with Irving she has been so supportive of this event. Irving always has some of the best looking trucks, are consistently in the top of the top fundraiser awards and hers’ and Irving’s support of Camp Sunshine has been unwavering for many years.

Dick Brown
Dick has been involved with the convoy for as many years as it has been around and is always the first to step up with his time his knowledge and his company’s backing for food and equipment. There is never any hesitation in his offering to help with anything he can. Truly a volunteer who sets an example for all the others.

Maine Motor Transport Association
As an organization, the Maine Motor Transport Association has been providing equipment, personnel, support with advertising and funding for awards as long as this event has been in existence. They go back to the 80’s. All the awards for the best looking trucks have been sponsored by them for over 30 years!
